Chikezie Chike-Michael
Bass-Baritone Soloist & Voice Trainer

Chike started singing as a Tenor at the age of 9 under the tutelage of Amorelle Inanga and Joshua Sarpong. At 16, Chike commenced singing lessons and soon became lead soloist in his choir.

 

Chike soon became the leader of a Male (double quartet) Acapella group, which stimulated his interest in the individual and collective vocal and sound production.

 

Chike studied German in the University of Ibadan for 2 years, then Anthropology, during which time he joined the University of Ibadan Choir, under the Directorship of Mr Christopher Oyeshiku, a foremost Bass singer of International repute and a fellow of Trinity College of Music, London.

 

Under Mr Oyeshiku, Chike became grounded in music perception, music interpretation, vocal training and choral conducting/directing.

 

Chike took over the mantle of leadership of the University of Chorale Ensemble between 1998 – 2002 when he travelled to England.

 

He has been to 2 International singing competitions in Italy and Spain where he gained more insight into the art of singing.

 

He has performed in a few operas in the UK and France and also performed Oratorios of Handel, Mendelssohn, Bach and Haydn as a Bass soloist. He was Bass soloist in the most recent Messiah performance, at the Hampstead Seventh-day Adventist Church in December 2014.

 

In 2010, Chike obtained the Licentiate of the Trinity College of Music, London and in 2012, he became a Fellow of Trinity College of Music.

Chike now performs regularly as a Bass-Baritone with the HACS Millennium Orchestra, under the Direction of Fiona D Pacquette. He also now teaches Voice Singing/Training at the East London School of Music (ELSCM).
